In the catering and fast food sector, more than 5.1 million tonnes of food waste are generated each year in Italy. This has a significant negative impact on the environment, contributing to pollution, the waste of valuable resources and the production of greenhouse gases that exacerbate the problem of climate change. 

 

To address this emergency, the European Union has set ambitious targets to be achieved by 2030. These include reducing food waste by 30% by 2025 and increasing the recycling rate to 70% by 2030. It also aims to eliminate single-use plastic packaging, encouraging a transition to reusable materials that can reduce long-term environmental impact.
